Johnny Fifth at Montmagny

Cassius Clark put it all together in a big way to win Saturday’s a Pro All Stars Series sanctioned All Star Challenge 200 at Quebec’s Autodrome Montmagny. The Farmington Maine speedster won the dash and led all 200 laps in the Autobus la Quebecoise – sponsored event, keeping his E.J. Prescott/DNK/Chapman Trucking Ford in front of Mike Rowe and Scott Mulkern at the stripe. The top three raced nose-to-tail for much of the event but Clark never faltered to earn the $5,000.00 payday. The victory was Clark’s first PASS feature win. He becomes the eleventh different 2004 PASS race winner and joins Ted Christopher, Richie Dearborn and Scott Mulkern on the list of first time victors this season.

Alexandre Gingras raced home fourth and was the top Canadian in the finishing order. 2004 Pro All Stars Series Champion Johnny Clark rounded out the top five. Completing the top ten were Richie Dearborn in sixth, Travis Benjamin seventh, Larry Gelinas (piloting Clinton Teague’s 34) eighth, Quebec’s Sylvain Lacombe ninth and Nova Scotian Mike Alexander tenth.

Gingras was fastest in time trials with a lap of 16.637 seconds, followed by Johnny Clark (16.677), Cassius Clark (16.702) Mike Rowe (16.791), Larry Gelinas (16.883) Ben Rowe, behind the wheel of the Pullen 24x (16.894), Richie Dearborn (16.935) Mulkern (16.965) and Corey Williams (17.029).

Only one caution flag slowed the 200 lap event that included a half-way break for tires and service. Among those falling by wayside early were Bill Rodgers (crash damage), Ben Rowe (rear end) and Corey Williams (engine).
